Looking back on 2021 this National Payroll Week

This National Payroll Week 2021, we thank our clients and payroll professionals for another year of keeping the UK paid.
This time last year, we acknowledged the work of payroll heroes during an unexpected start to 2020. Luckily this time around, we’re starting to see positive changes in employment as things begin to pick up again. Latest figures from Office for National Statistics report that the number of payroll employees in July 2021 was 28.9 million – a significant increase from the same period last year.
It’s been another busy year for payroll with lots of new legislation coming into effect and changes to workforces and industries. We’re grateful for all the hard work of payroll teams across the UK to generate accurate and punctual payslips – when being paid has never been more important.
So, let’s recap on just a few most memorable payroll moments of 2021 so far.
When IR35 finally came into place…
…at the same time as Making Tax Digital Phase 2
Not to mention the many changes to furlough deadlines
Hospitality and other leisure venues opening up…
…until another lockdown (temporary staffing payroll professionals will RELATE)
But despite all the odds, finally coming out of lockdown and being able to enjoy payday once again
